Heart problems cannot always be noticed right away – only in films a person grabs his chest and pictures falls to the floor, in real life, the manifestations of cardiovascular diseases can be completely different. This is stated by scientists from the Penn State Hershey Heart and Vascular Institute. Unpleasant sensations may not be associated with pain or with the heart, but, nevertheless, the following 11 symptoms should be paid attention to – especially if you are over 60 years old, or you have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or excess weight. The more risk factors – the greater the likelihood that the following signs indicate diseases of the heart and blood vessels.
Chest discomfort
This is the most common symptom. If you have a sore chest or a feeling of tightness, pressure, it may be necessary to see a cardiologist. Experts say that everyone describes this discomfort in their own way, some feel as if something was pinched inside, others – that burns in the chest, and others – as if an elephant had sat on them. The feeling lasts longer than a few minutes, it can occur both at rest and during physical activity.
Nausea, heartburn, indigestion
In some patients, such problems can be an indicator of heart disease. This happens more often in women. Of course, an upset stomach may be completely unrelated to the heart, but if you are at risk, it’s best to see a doctor.
Pain extending to the arm
It is also one of the classic signs. If the pain begins in the chest and spreads along the left side of the body, giving it to the arm is likely an exacerbation of the disease. Sometimes the hand can hurt more than the chest.
Dizziness or lightness in the head
Many things can cause dizziness – for example, you ate too little or drank, and maybe you rose sharply. But in combination with other symptoms, it can also indicate that the heart is not coping with the pumping of blood through the body.
Sore throat
By itself, such pain can mean anything – for example, it happens with a cold. But if chest pain spreads to the throat and beyond – it is also worth a visit to the doctor.
Fatigue
If you get tired quickly or, for example, are out of breath after the simplest action (for example, they brought food from the car and cannot catch your breath), go to the doctor. These symptoms may even be very important. If weakness has attacked you and you cannot understand where it came from – check your heart.
Snore
If a person doesn’t snore much, it can be normal. However, too much loud snoring can be a sign of breathing problems, which, in turn, can not affect the work of the heart.
Cold sweat
If you unexpectedly become covered with cold sweat, and you still feel any of the symptoms described above, call a doctor, do not risk going to him yourself. These may be signs of a heart attack.
Persistent cough
Such a cough may be an indication that the lungs do not get enough blood. A visit to the doctor is necessary again (the cough itself is also not very pleasant).
Leg swelling
When the heart does not pump blood as intensively as it should, it can stagnate in the veins of the legs, leading to swelling of the lithe mbs. In addition, in ,case of heart failure the kidneys work worse, which can also be expressed in the form of edema.
Arrhythmia
The heart may change its rhythm if you are nervous, but if it lasts longer than a few seconds or happens too often, tell your cardiologist about it.
