As the Lagos governorship election draws closer, Nigerian youths have expressed their disappointment over the candidacy of Desmond Elliot, who is re-running for the Lagos House of Representatives for the Surulere constituency.
During the EndSARS protests in 2020, Desmond Elliot, who is also a Nollywood actor, came under fire for referring to the protesting youths as “children” and for his stance against their demands. This stance has not been forgotten by Nigerian youths, who feel that he is not a suitable candidate for the position.
Despite the backlash he received, Desmond Elliot has decided to run for the position again. This decision has been met with displeasure from Nigerian youths, who believe that he is not a candidate who will represent their interests and concerns.
Many Nigerian youths have now thrown their support behind Olumide, another Nollywood actor under the Labour party, who they believe is a better candidate for the position.
As the Lagos governorship election approaches, the people of Surulere constituency will have to decide which candidate to vote for. It remains to be seen whether Desmond Elliot’s re-running bid will be successful, but it is clear that the Nigerian youths are not happy with his candidacy and are looking for a candidate who will truly represent their interests.
