Under the present administration, the Sokoto State Government has vowed to continue working toward providing a steady supply of energy, stressing the importance of this in advancing socioeconomic and agricultural development.
Sanusi Danfulani, the state’s commissioner for energy and petroleum resources, revealed this to reporters on Friday, not long after touring the Goronyo Dam project.
The commissioner revealed that the 35MW Independent Power Project, which was started by Senator Aliyu Wamakko’s administration, has received N2 billion in approval from the state governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu.
Additionally, he stated that the solar energy project, which he claimed has already started, has received N3 billion in approval from the governor.
He clarified that in order to supplement the state-owned IPP, which will shortly be put to use, the state administration is working with international energy corporations to get five hydropower megawatts from the Goronyo Dam.
The commissioner went on to say that the local government areas of Goronyo, Isa, Sabon Birni, Rabah, Wurno, Gada, Illela, and Gwadabawa would receive electricity from the five megawatts if they were completed.
