Alec Baldwin: Manslaughter Charges DROPPED After Fatal Movie Set Shooting

The actor, 65, will no longer face any criminal charges over the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the Rust movie.

He had been facing two involuntary manslaughter charges for the incident in October 2021.

However, it’s now been confirmed – in the week that it was reported he will start filming the movie again – that all charges have been dropped.

His lawyers, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro released a statement saying: “We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident.”

The latest change to the case comes after Alec had requested that a lawsuit filed by Halyna’s parents was dismissed after he said Olga Solovey, Anatolii Androsovych, and Svetlana Zemko filed the suit to “obtain compensation” following her death.

Last month, the Santa Fe District Attorney who charged Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter announced she was to step aside from the lawsuit.

Mary Carmack-Altwies announced the appointment of attorneys Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis to serve as new special prosecutors in the case.

Her statement said she was stepping down in order to “focus on broader public safety needs” in the state of New Mexico.

The incident on the set of Rust in 2021 occurred as the actor discharged a prop gun, which also injured the film’s director Joel Souza.

The crew had been inside a small church during setup for filming a scene.

Halyna, 42, was airlifted to hospital from the New Mexico set, but died of her injuries.

Both Baldwin and the film’s armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed were initially charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter over the death of Halyna on the film set.

If they were convicted it could have seen Alec go to prison for a maximum of 18 months.

There were no charges filed specific to the non-fatal shooting of the film’s director.
