Anambra Govt to prosecute woman accused of burning maid with hot iron

The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, has vowed that the 29-year-old woman accused of t0rturing her maid with a hot electric iron will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction.

LIB reported that the suspect, Osinachi Ede, was arrested by the police on February 3, 2026.

The suspect allegedly used a hot pressing iron on the 17-year-old student of Community Secondary School, Agulu Awka, as punishment for using her phone to make a call.

Chuma-Udeh made this known while addressing the suspect in her office in Awka on Friday, February 20.

While addressing the suspect, the commissioner insisted that prosecuting the matter would serve as a deterrent to others engaging in similar acts.

She directed that the victim, who had earlier been sent to her relatives, be returned to Awka, reiterating the state government’s commitment to child protection.

“The suspect will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for brutalising the victim. This is to serve as a deterrent to others who might be engaging in such acts, Udeh stated.

“This reaffirms the resolve of the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to ensure the welfare and safety of every child in Anambra schools

“The interest of Mr Governor in this matter is to ensure that every child in Anambra is adequately protected from abuse.

“The suspect must be arraigned before the court to serve as a deterrent to others who may intend to engage in similar acts of brutalising children, as part of the government’s continuous commitment to the welfare and safety of students and pupils in the state.”

She warned that the full weight of the law would be applied against anyone found culpable of child abuse in the state.
