Lionel Messi was sent off in the 3-2 defeat against Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday at the Sanchez Pizjuan in Seville.
Antony Griezmann scored a goal in each half but it was not enough as Bilbao replied with a goal almost immediately after the French man’s goal.
The game went to extra time after the clash ended 2-2 in the normal regulation time, following Asier Villalibre last-minute equaliser.
Inaki Williams goal in the extra time ensured Bilbao killed off the game and out of frustration Messi blew an opponent and the referee flash the captain a red card as Barcelona reduced to ten men before the final whistle.
