A Canada women’s soccer staff member received an eight-month suspended sentence for using a drone to film New Zealand’s closed-door practice on Monday, according to the Saint-Etienne prosecutor’s office.
The Canadian Olympic Committee apologized Wednesday after the New Zealand Olympic Committee complained about the incident in Saint-Étienne, where the match will be held.
Defending champion Canada will play New Zealand on Thursday in a group-stage game.
The COC announced that two members of the Canadian Olympic Team would be sent home immediately, Joseph Lombardi, an unaccredited analyst with Canada Soccer, and assistant coach Jasmine Mander, who received his report.
