Dental technology interns at Nigeria's first university hospital protest the nonpayment of their hazard allowance, which is due in 9 months.

Dental technologists who interned at the University College Hospital, Ibadan (UCH-Ibadan) from April 2022 to March 2023 have complained that the institution’s management has not paid them their nine months’ worth of hazard allowance arrears from April to December 2022.

They expressed disappointment that “all attempts from every angle to contact the management to ascertain why our hazard allowance has not been paid have proved futile.”

Another disgruntled intern stated, “We’ve learned that interns fall under the category of non-regular staff, whose payment system is the Government Integrated Financial and Management Information System (GIFMIS), which means that interns are paid from hospital revenue that will be approved by management rather than from any office in Abuja as they previously claimed.
