Ex-convict imprisoned in Lagos for $1.4 million fraud

Kolawole Erinle, a businessman, was found guilty of $1.4 million in fraud and given a 12-year prison sentence by Justice R. A. Osodi of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos.

Erinle acknowledged during the prosecution’s cross-examination that he had served 23 months of a jail sentence in the United States and was an ex-convict.

In a statement released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday and signed by Dele Oyewale, the acting head of media and publicity, Erinle and his business, Rinde-Remdex Nigeria Limited, were initially charged on March 11, 2022, before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Special Offenses Court.

Justice Oshodi issued a ruling on September 26, 2023, finding the defendant and his company guilty of all charges and concluding that the prosecution had successfully established its case against them beyond a reasonable doubt.
