Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher no longer bedridden, 12 years after horrific Ski accident

New details have emerged about Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher’s recovery from his devastating 2013 ski accident, with reports indicating he is no longer bedridden.

According to reports by the Daily Mail, Schumacher, who suffered a severe head injury after falling and hitting his head on a rock while skiing in the French Alps, “is now sitting up in a wheelchair.” Sources said the 57-year-old can be wheeled around his properties in Majorca and Switzerland.

Since the life-altering accident 12 years ago, Schumacher has remained largely out of public view.

He is cared for by his wife, Corinna, whom he has been married to since 1995, alongside a team of medical professionals, including nurses and therapists, who “keep a 24-hour watch,” the report said.

Amid widespread speculation about Schumacher’s condition, including rumors that blinking was his primary form of communication — an insider offered a more nuanced account.

“The feeling is he understands some of the things going on around him, but probably not all of them,” the source said.

Schumacher and his family have faced further challenges in recent years. In 2025, three individuals were found guilty of attempting to blackmail the family, after allegedly threatening to release hundreds of private videos and photographs on the dark web unless a multi-million-dollar payment was made.

A year earlier, speculation that Schumacher would appear at his daughter’s wedding was dismissed by a family confidant.

Schumacher won seven Formula 1 world titles and recorded 91 race victories before retiring from the sport in 2012.
