The Kano Elders Council, or KEC, was founded on Saturday by Kano State Governor Kabir Yusuf to act as a council of advisors to the state administration.
Governor Yusuf said that Kano has been blessed by Allah with many elders and previous leaders who have reached the peak of their careers and are still active and in good health in a statement released by the governor’s spokeswoman, Sunusi Bature.
All of the members of the Council of Elders are native to the state and include former chief justices, secretaries to the state government, Senate presidents, retired justices from the Supreme Court and Appeal
Court, speakers of the state house of assembly, speakers of the house of representatives, deputy speakers, retired governors, and former heads of state civil service.
The leadership of the Ulamas, the Business Community, the traditional rulers, the past chiefs of Kano State’s security services, and other notable elders to be named and nominated by the government comprise the council.
