A young Nigerian woman in her 20s has reportedly died during labour, sparking intense debate on social media after details from her funeral surfaced online.

According to a post shared by a lady on X (formerly Twitter), the controversy began during the woman’s Islamic funeral rites when the Alfa asked if the deceased had any outstanding debts.

In a moment that shocked many in attendance, the late woman’s husband reportedly raised his hand, stating that she owed him ₦200,000.

What further fuelled public anger was the claim that the woman’s brother immediately paid the money on the spot, rather than the husband forgiving the debt, as many expected.
