Kenyan soldier kills his wife and takes own life a day after their romantic photoshoot

A 25-year-old Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier allegedly killed his wife a day after the two went for a romantic photoshoot.
Daniel Mburu, who was serving in Samburu County, is said to have allegedly killed his wife, Eunice Waruguru, 28, before turning the gun on himself on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
The couple was found dead at the officer’s compound on Sunday at 05:20 Hrs.
An AK-47 loaded with 23 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition used in the act was recovered.
The couple’s 3-year-old daughter was spared from their tragedy as she had been left behind with her grandmother at home in Kanjuku, Gatundu North, Kiambu.
Also found in the room were 6 AK-47 magazines, each loaded with 30 rounds, a hard cover exercise book containing an 8 page handwritten last testaments belonging to Daniel and two phones.
Preliminary investigation indicated the soldier sustained a gunshot wound in the head while his wife has gunshot woundson her left hand, face and head.
The two bodies were moved to the Samburu county Referral Hospital Morgue awaiting postmortem examination.
Military police from Ngoisus Camp and Laikipia North Sub-county DCI processed the scene.
The soldier’s family has been left reeling in pain and shock over the tragic incident.
Speaking to Kameme TV, the KDF soldier’s family said the two got into a relationship three years ago and that, though they had issues, they were always in love and enjoyed taking trips together.
“We were saddened to receive the heartbreaking news. We were told that Daniel Mburu and his wife were d3ad. We were told the incident occurred in the wee hours of Sunday. They were not angels, and so yes, there were issues here and there. However, those issues were not serious. I am shocked by this,” his father said.
“The family said they were heartbroken by the news, adding that they did not think Mburu, whom they described as a calm person, could do such a thing.
Last photos of KDF soldier and his wife Details shared indicate that on Friday, March 6, a day before their d8aths, the couple had a romantic photoshoot, during which they displayed their love for each other.
In the photos that are circulating widely on social media, the couple who wore traditional Kikuyu attires, seemingly displayed the affection and love they have for each other.
