Man claims authorities are refusing to let him adopt abandoned baby he found and paid to treat after reporting to police (photos/videos)

A man has claimed that authorities are now trying to take a baby from him after they initially did nothing when he reported that he found an abandoned baby.
Mr Okorom Ifeanyi, a resident of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was one of those who found a baby girl abandoned in a sack inside a bush.
He said that he visited the nearest police station to make them aware of the baby and the police did not ask for the baby to be handed over to them.
He said he and his wife decided to care for the child, took her to the hospital, paid the bills, and decided to start the official process of adoption, only to be told that the baby is the government’s child and they can’t adopt her.

Lamenting to LIB, Mr Okorom said: “We took it upon ourselves, me and my wife, admitted the child. We also reported duely to police, and police didn’t ask us to hand off.
“Now the child survived three days in incubator, two days in oxygen, the child survived. I paid my deposit in hospital. Now I wanted to start the process of adopting the child only for them to tell me I can’t, it’s a govt child.”
