A 25-year-old Katsina man has been remanded in prison until April 30, 2019, for impregnating his neighbour’s 12-year-old daughter.It is expected that the case involving the suspect identified as Hussaini Muntari of Inwala Jangele village in the Batagarawa Local Government Area of Katsina, will come up for mention before Hajiya Fadila Dikko of the Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court.
The police arrested the
Katsina man for impregnating his neighbour’s 12-year-old daughter, after
the victim’s father reported the incident at the Batagarawa Divisional
Police Headquarters. The distraught father accused the suspect of having
unlawful carnal knowledge of his daughter following the discovery on
January 22, 2019, that she was three months pregnant.
Muntari who
was consequently charged with rape under Section 283 of the Penal Code,
confessed to the victim’s father that he was the father of her unborn
child, adding that he allegedly had sex with her at different times in
his room. Punch reported that the police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado,
told the court on Tuesday that investigation was still in progress. The
trial judge adjourned the case till April 30 and remanded Muntari in
prison.
