Chelsea striker Marc Guiu left Stamford Bridge in disbelief after an early contender for the season’s worst miss during the team’s 2-0 win over Servette in the first leg of their Conference League playoff. After Christopher Nkunku put Chelsea ahead with a penalty early in the second half, Guiu had a golden chance to double the lead moments later. He dispossessed Servette goalkeeper Jérémy Frick, but with an open goal at his mercy, Guiu scuffed his shot, allowing Frick to recover and make a save. To compound the error, Guiu missed two subsequent follow-up attempts.
Despite Chelsea retaining possession and pressing forward, Guiu remained hunched over in disbelief inside the penalty area. Fortunately, 20 minutes later, Noni Madueke provided a lesson in clinical finishing by hammering an emphatic strike into the near post, giving the Blues a commanding aggregate lead ahead of the second leg in Switzerland.
