A woman identified as Kehinde Opebiye, has been duped of N850k by a 42-year old man, Abioye Olakunle, who promised to marry her.
According to reports, the alleged scam took place at Irewolede Street, Shasha, Lagos, where Olakunle resided with his wife and children.
It was gathered that Opebiye was planning to leave her husband and marry Olakunle. She, however, later discovered that Olakunle was married with children.
She then requested her money back but Olakunle refused. He asked her to come in and join his wife; as he was still prepared to marry her, regardless.
The victim eventually confessed to her husband who had been suspicious of her movements before she opened up. She pleaded for forgiveness and told the husband that she might have been charmed by Olakunle to behave in such a manner.
Her husband forgave her and went to the police at Shasha Division to report the alleged scam.
The police later arrested Olakunle, who admitted that he collected the money. He promised to marry her and said that he was still prepared to marry her if she was ready to be his second wife.
Olakunle was later charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates court on Thursday for marriage fraud and stealing. He pleaded not guilty and the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.K.J. Layeni granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
