Meet Lyndsey Scott The Victoria Secret Model And Coding Genius

In the male-dominated STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) industries, Lyndsey Scott, a former Victoria Secrets model has become a source of inspiration for female programmers.

The model who graduated with a double major in Theatre and Computer Programming from Amherst College says that she started coding when she was 12 using the TI-89 graphing calculator. Today, Scott can programme code in Phython, C++, Java, MIPS and Objective -C.

In an industry where Ada Lovelace, a woman is dubbed “the first computer programmer”, Scott sharing her with ELLEMagazine, says that she was often overlooked because of her gender.

The 33-year-old who was called a “monster” while growing up because she attended a white-dominated high school is the first African-American model to get an exclusive runway contract with Calvin Klein.

Scott has written several apps including Educate!, an app that supports young Ugandan scholars; iPort, an app to help models organize their career portfolio; The Matchmaker, a social network that alerts another “user physically near another user compatible in love, friendship or business” and Code Made Cool, an iPhone app that taught girls programming.
