The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, provided justification for the creation of 134 Standing Committees on Thursday.
Despite the vast number of committees, House Spokesman and Chairman of the Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Akin Rotimi, pointed out that there is no function overlap.
The Speaker is alleged to have increased the number of committees from 109 to 134 in order to make up for his appointment as head of the Green Chamber by his colleagues. The excessive number of committees has drawn criticism.
