The Argentine’s Camp Nou exit is looking likely

Clubs won’t be obliged to meet Lionel Messi’s €700 million (£624m/$833m) release clause, claims Cadena SER. 

That mammoth sum has reportedly been avoided by Messi’s decision to depart Barcelona at the end of the 2019-20 season. 

Barca may still push for a fee on the grounds of the Argentine walking away without just cause, but they’ll have to accept a much smaller fee than their original release clause.
