In an effort to reduce poverty in Nigeria, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, stated on Tuesday that the Federal Government (FG) will empower 15 million households under the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program. Edu made this statement after meeting with the Minister of Information & National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris.
She revealed that in order to help Nigerians escape poverty, Edu will implement a number of social protection programs under the national social safety net programs.
According to Edu, the Federal government would provide food, shelter, and other social requirements for persons afflicted by humanitarian crises under the Humanitarian pillar of the Ministry, while other programs will be introduced under Poverty Alleviation to help citizens escape poverty.
Among the programs, according to Dr. Edu, are the Grant for Vulnerable Groups, Renewed Hope Shelter, Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT), Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), and End Hunger Program under the National Home Grown School Feeding Program.
According to Alhaji Idris, the FMI&NO’s responsibility is to see to it that every government initiative is made public for the benefit of the general population in Nigeria.
He promised that his ministry will assist in getting the appropriate publicity for the Humanitarian Ministry’s programs.
