”Obasanjo Was Not Elected As President In 1999, He Was Appointed” MKO Abiola’s Daughter Says
Tundun Abiola who is one of the daughters of the presumed winner of the 1993 Presidential election, MKO Abiola, was a guest on Rubbing minds yesterday to discuss the recent honor done on her Father’s memory by President Buhari.
Last week, President Buhari announced that June 12th will become the official democracy day and that the highest honorary title, GCFR, will be conferred posthumously on Abiola.
Speaking during her interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Tundun criticised former president Olusegun Obasanjo for failing to recognise her father who was elected unlike him that was appointed.
”Obasanjo was appointed the president, he was not elected president. We did not have any election in 1999, we had a coronation. When you know you were not elected, you know you were selected and just appointed president by the military, it is galling for him to have acknowledged a democratic process. President Obasanjo and my father had a relationship then; so what happened in their lifetime continued even after my father was dead. He cannot bear the idea of Moshood Abiola – so he did not do it,” she claimed
