Open Heaven 14 January 2019 Monday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – You are not Alone

Topic: You are not Alone (Open Heaven 14 January 2019)
Memorise: “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”- Matthew 28:20
Read: John 16:5-13 (KJV)
5 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
Bible in One Year: Matthew 27-28, Isaiah 11:6-12:6
MESSAGE:
One comforting assurance we have from our Lord Jesus Christ is that we are not alone. The devil wants you to feel you are alone and abandoned, but it is a lie. In today’s Bible reading, we are reassured that even though the Master has gone away to be with His Father, He did not leave us without a Comforter, who is the Holy Spirit. The work of the Holy Spirit includes reproof concerning sin, encouragement into a life of righteousness and giving sound judgement in difficult situations. He is to guide us into all truth, which includes the truth that we are not alone, neither can we be deserted or abandoned. The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus Christ in our lives by doing what only Christ can do in and through us. There are things that Jesus Christ commanded us to do that are impossible to execute except we are divinely aided, such as the command in Matthew 5:11-12 to rejoice when we are persecuted. The Holy Spirit helps us with this and much more.
Sometimes, you may experience some situations which the devil may capitalise on to malign our loving Master as having abandoned you, but it is not true. I have also experienced this. Many years ago, the devil came to tell me that I was abandoned and not appreciated, but God proved him wrong when a little girl came from several kilometers away to give me a cake as appreciation for what God was doing with my life. After receiving that cake, I forgot all the feelings of abandonment.
Another time, I was travelling somewhere and the aircraft got into a very turbulent weather. There was so much commotion in the plane, to the extent that many people abandoned their complimentary meals for fear of a possible crash. In the meantime, my Daddy spoke with me, telling me to keep calm because He was in the plan…

TOPIC: FRUSTRATED BY FAILURE?
TEXT: EXODUS 5:15-23
1) THE KEY VERSE:
“And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me? For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil unto this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all” (Exodus 5:22,23)
2) THE TEXT:
(EXODUS 5: 15 – 23 KJV)
“15. Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?
16. There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.
17. But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD.
18. Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.
19. And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task.
20. And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:
21. And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.
22. And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, LORD, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?
23. For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.”
3) THE MESSAGE:
i) Imagine the kind of crushing feeling you have when you know you have fully prepared for a project or a task, but failed woefully or met a serious resistance at first attempt.
ii) Moses and the elders of Israel did not expect to meet the kind of reaction they got from Pharaoh, nor were they prepared for it.
iii) Not with the kind of assurance he had received from his miraculous encounter with God and the many other signs he has given.
iv) Buoyed with these and the encouraging acceptance from the elders of Israel, Moses and Aaron marched confidently to Pharaoh to present their demand. But Pharaoh reacted in rage. He claimed not to know the God they were talking about and swore not to let them step out of Egypt.
v) To worsen things, he decided to give them tougher tasks and increased their hardship.
vi) This not being what they bargained for, the elders of Israel poured their frustration on Moses, wishing he had never come up with the idea of leaving in the first place.
vii) Moses too could not hide his pain and frustration as he wished he was never sent on such a mission.
viii) The experiences of most Christians may not be different from that of Moses. They may experience tough resistance or failure in ministry, marriage, career of business.
ix) But for the latter experiences of Moses, they should learn not to allow initial disappointment or opposition to seal their fate. Most good projects meet with initial failures.
x) What you need is the staying power to remain resilient and steadfast.
xi) Like Moses, if you go back to God with your feeling, you are sure to bounce back with renewed strength and courage to press on until you succeed.
xii) Don’t let first failure frustrate you. You can still succeed if you press on in faith.
4) THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
That you failed once does not mean you will fail again; never give up.*_
