Oumou Sangaré is a prominent Malian singer and songwriter known for her powerful vocals and her exploration of social issues in her music. She was born on February 25, 1968, in Bamako, Mali. Sangaré is often referred to as the “Songbird of Wassoulou,” which is a region in southwestern Mali known for its musical traditions.
Throughout her career, Oumou Sangaré has released several highly acclaimed albums, including “Ko Sira” (1993), “Worotan” (1996), and “Mogoya” (2017). Her music combines traditional West African instruments, such as the kora and balafon, with contemporary arrangements and influences from jazz and blues.
