Yesterday, the Nigerian Army (NA), Lagos State Government, Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area, Maj. Gen. Tajudeen Olanrewaju (retd.), the former Minister of Communications, and other relevant parties expressed their anger in response to a widely shared video that showed some northerners posing as Lagos natives in order to be recruited into the Army.
The Middle-Belt Forum (MBF), the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), the Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization Afenifere, and the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) were among the stakeholders who spoke yesterday.
Some of the recruits in the film claimed to be from Kaduna State and to be unable to speak Yoruba. They attempted to join the Army by presenting papers proving they were from Kosofe and Oshodi-Isolo LGAs, among other places.
The film, according to Olanrewaju, a former General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s Third Armoured Division, is a “as big slap on the national goal of achieving peace and unity of the country.”
He asked Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja to look into the spots held by Lagos natives in the current NA recruiting.
