Ramos Misses Two Spot-Kicks In His Record Appearance Against Switzerland

Sergio Ramos was on the receiving end against Switzerland after the Spanish captain missed two spot-kicks in the 1-1 draw against Rossocrociati on Saturday evening at the Jakob Stadium in the UEFA Nations League.

Ramos,34, marked his 177th appearance for Spain to break Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon’s European appearance record but the historic milestone was somewhat marred by his missed penalties.

Though the Real Madrid defender made a goal-bound clearance off the line when Spanish goalkeeper Simon Unai was caught off guard but with the miss from the spot he ended a remarkable run of scoring 25 consecutive penalties.

Ramos could also have scored in open play late in the game only to miss the target, but Gerard Moreno did find an equaliser to avert what would have been a second consecutive Nations League defeat for Spain after last month’s 1-0 loss to Ukraine.
