Sagay To APC: Stop Tarnishing Lagos CP, Imohimi Edgal’s Image

Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Itse Sagay, Chairman of the Presidential
Advisory Committee (PACAC), on Thursday, said Imohimi Edgal, the
Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, is a highly professional and
dedicated officer who does not deserve the attacks on him by some
sympathisers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.

Sagay
particularly made reference to an article written by Segun Ayobolu, a
columnist with The Nation Newspaper, saying that the write-up was aimed
at damaging Edgal’s records and achievements in the police force.

It
will be recalled that the Lagos CP had come under attacks following the
violence that broke out at the flag-off rally of the APC in Lagos State
a fortnight ago in which several people were injured.

But Sagay,
in a statement made available to DAILY INDEPENDENT, said a highly
professional, disciplined, committed and fine public officer like Edgal
should not be submitted to the attacks from the public as expressed by
Ayobolu in his Saturday, January 19 2019, article.

The statement
reads: “I was very shocked by the extremely savage and vicious attack on
our amiable and indefatigable Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal
by Mr. Segun Ayobolu in his column in the Nation Newspaper of January
19, 2019. Fine public officers of the quality and caliber of Mr. Edgal,
should not be subjected to the type of abuse and excoriation, I have
just referred to.

“I was terribly shocked by the content of Segun
Ayobolu’s column on Saturday 19 January in which he engaged in a cruel,
savage and vitriolic attack against our indefatigable, committed,
highly motivated Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal. That
publication was a determined effort at damaging the Commissioner’s
record and achievements.

“The conspiracy theory about the
incident at the APC flag off campaign is unworthy of Segun. He elevated
a motor park type gossip into a plausible explanation for the
unfortunate incident on the campaign grounds, which could occur at any
time in our volatile environment, regardless of who was in charge.

“It
is evil to suggest that a trained and highly professional officer like
Mr. Edgal could look the other way in the midst of the abrupt and
impromptu hooliganism that occurred at the campaign grounds.”
