Former world No. 1 in tennis, Simona Halep, has been granted permission to resume her career following a reduction in her backdated four-year ban to nine months, as announced by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Tuesday.
The two-time grand slam champion had initially faced a ban in September 2023, following her conviction of anti-doping rule violations by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Independent Tribunal.
In their media release, the CAS Panel emphasized that Simona Halep’s “anti-doping rule violations were not intentional.”
Expressing her relief and anticipation, Halep stated that she is eager to make her return to the tour after what she perceives as the triumph of truth.
