[STORY]:- The Blind Alley – Episode 13

The Journey to New Haven

With an overwhelming ecstacy written all over his face, Bro. Mathew held me by the hand as we were headed to the security post for a gate pass..

He had gone to bring his wallet but he came down with his wallet and another jacket… More like a sweater as the weather was becoming hazy.

Never have i seen him so happy before, his joy knew no bound.

We spent quite some time at the gate post , it was as if he was arguing or trying to explain something to them. I couldn’t hear what the discussions were as he asked me to sit at the wooden bench beside the elderly man, dressed in all Green khaki uniforms.

“isn’t he too old to be one of the security guards?, ” i had thought but couldn’t get my eyes off what Bro.mathew and the two young men inside were discussing.

“Sorry about the delay dear,” he said to me as they finally allowed him to go.

“No mind them, their wahala for this school too much jaree”, ‘he tried convincing me all was well as we carefully crossed over to the extreme part of the road to wait for a cab.

All these while, i couldn’t talk but kept imagining where we were going. I never knew seminarians could be allowed access to leave the confines of the school environment.

“Where again did you say we were going?,” i finally broke the silence as he flagged down a yellow cab shouting, “NEW HAVEN!!! , NEW HAVEN!!!”

“could he be possibly taken me to Heaven?,” i stupidly asked myself in clear rhetorics.

“Obioma, relax na…” You worry too much.

Ok… I’m taking you to the Amalakites to sell you off to the Egyptians, ”he jokingly said as he held me close to his warm body.

I managed to drop a twit of laughter, said a little prayer in my mind as i buried my head on his broad chest.

As we rode, i found succor in the fact that i was actually on this terrestrial voyage with a “man of God”… My semi would never hurt me… Never would he.

“Driver !!!, drop us at the next junction after the police station,” he said to the driver whose raucous music ? was disturbing my eardrums.

It seemed he didn’t hear what he said  and drove past the supposed junction Semi told him…..

Damn….!!!! He would have to drive to the end of the road as to get another connecting link to our proposed bustop.

This was actually the first time i’d hear or see Semi yell at someone in a tumultuous manner….. He really was so angry at him.

“it’s ok dear,” i tried calming him down.

From the bustop to the place was another 15 minutes drive as we boarded another “Keke” (tricycle).

nawaooooooo“… “Semi”… This place is so far, i couldn’t hide my frustration any longer as the journey kept lingering.

You know, Semi has a way of comforting me each time i panicked, i don’t really know but it feels good each time he looked me in the eyes and whispers, “Relax…. I’m with you”.

That ends it….. My Semi is with me..!!!

We arrived the place at exactly 6:15 pm as it was almost getting dark.

It seemed nobody was home as we kept knocking at the door without any response.

Worst still, it started raining so heavily just few minutes after our arrival.

Semi looked agitated as he kept trying to reach the person we came to see on the phone to no avail.

Finally, the person returned his call after we had almost thrown in the towel.

“Chimezie..” what happened to your phone na, ” he queried him with much anxiety.

I didn’t hear what the person told him but he kept saying “ok” .. Please be fast !! as he ended the call.

Atleast I knew our messiah was close at hand.

It was too cold outside. He held me so tight to his body as he robbed the upper part of my shoulder slightly. We sat quietly on the plastic chair in front of the long covered corridor and listened to beats the raindrops made on the roof of the building.

“i’m so sorry, I didn’t know my phone was ringing, ” a male voice started apologising right from the gate drenched….he was fully drenched.

It was Chimezie….the Guy he called.

” it’s ok bro, open the door first before cold turns us to Frozen fish, ”Semi teased him as he dipped his hands in his pocket to fetch the keys.

“Meet my cousin, Chimezie, he is a bank staff, my closest cousin who has vehemently swore never to get married  thus, he lives here alone,” he tried introducing him to me.

Chimezie giggled and asked me never to mind his silly cousin.

“Chimeee…..” Meet Obioma, my” Sister in Christ”, he said with a mischievous smile.

Wait…!!! …i thought we were going to a family house? how come a single guy’s apartment,” i quizzed myself as i brought out my hand for a handshake.

You guys are so welcome, feel comfortable, let me quickly go and prepare dinner for the two of you.

Did i hear him well? Did he say dinner for the two of us?…. Does it mean Semi would sleep over?

Your guess is as good as mine….

Hang on for the Next Episode…
