TOPIC: A GREATER LOVE
TEXT: JOHN 20:10-18

1) THE KEY VERSE:

“But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre” (John 20:11).

2) THE TEXT:

JOHN 20: 10 – 18 KJV)

“20:10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.

20:11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,

20:12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

20:13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my LORD, and I know not where they have laid him.

20:14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

20:15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

20:16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

20:18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the LORD, and that he had spoken these things unto her.”

3) THE MESSAGE:

i) After the death of Argentinian, Miguel Guzman in 2006, it was reported that his faithful dog refused to leave the side of his master’s grave for six years.

ii) The German shepherd named Capitan ran away from home after the death of his master. A week later, Mr. Guzman’s family went to pay their respects and found the heartbroken pet sitting by his owner’s grave, wailing.

iii) From the passage, Mary Magdalene stayed back at the sepulchre weeping even after all the disciples had returned to their homes. She kept waiting!

iv) She had been early at the grave on the first day of the week after the crucifixion to discover the empty grave.

v) Not finding the body in the grave, the disciples returned perplexed, but Mary Magdalene stayed back to weep and await any further development about the Lord until suddenly Christ appeared to her to confirm His resurrection and for her to be the agent to broadcast the good news again.

vi) Jesus, from Luke’s account, was said to have cast out seven demons from Mary Magdalene. She later served with other women in providing for and supporting Christ and his disciples in their ministry (Luke 8:2,3). She lived her life in full gratitude to the Lord.

vii) The love of God showed to her constrained her to love so much. The question now is, how much is your love for the Master?

viii) When the goings get tough and many fellow believers around you lose their love and patience and decide to call it quits, will you stand and maintain your loyalty to Him?

ix) The Bible predicts that in the last days, the love of many shall wax cold, faith and commitment will decrease with many abandoning their vows.

x) Such evil days call us to demonstrate to the Master that we love Him by remaining steadfast in His love, grace and commission.

4) THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

True love for the Master transcends mere verbal professions.

5) BIBLE READING IN ONE YEAR:

PSALM 65-67;

69-70

Happy Weekend😁😁😁
