SUNDAY, JULY 8, 2018

TOPIC: FIGHT NOT FOR POSITION
TEXT: NUMBERS 16:36-40
1) THE KEY VERSE: 
“The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel” (Numbers 16:38).
2) THE TEXT: 

(NUMBERS 16: 36 – 40 KJV)
“36. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
37. Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are hallowed.
38. The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.
39. And Eleazar the priest took the brazen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar:
40. To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.”
3) THE MESSAGE:
i) After the Titanic, presumed the world’s largest and safest luxury ship, sank on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York in April 1912, two simple lists were presented at The White Star Company (builder of the ship). It had only two sections: 

a) ‘LOST’ or 

b) ‘SAVED’. 
ii) Interestingly, before the journey, many things were important about the passengers: whether they were rich or poor, seated in the first class or economy cabin, men or women, etc. A time will come when all that matter is whether one is saved or lost. 
iii) The infamous rebellion led by Korah, Dathan and Abiram to contest leadership positions eventually came to a tragic end. 
iv) After the principals of the rebellion died, the two hundred and fifty men who supported them were also burnt with fire. 
v) God commanded Eleazer to make broad plates of the censer used by the rebels, to prevent others from attempting such senseless rebellion. 
vi) Korah and his companions died prematurely. Korah should have stayed in his office as a Levite in the spirit of humility to move Israel forward. 
vii) Distribution of principal offices, even in the church could become a problem, especially if it is perceived by some mischief makers that some people are more favoured than others. 
viii) We must stay off fighting for rights and privileges and allow God to choose. 
ix) When we are humble, God will lift us and give us more responsibilities in the future. We are in the church to make heaven, not to fight for positions. 
x) Therefore, greed for leadership positions in the church or elsewhere should not obscure our vision of heaven.
4) THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: 
God will reward those who seek Him, not those who seek rewards.
