TODAY’S MANNA THURSDAY, APRIL 26, 2018

TOPIC: ICED!

TEXT: MARK 12:35-44

1) THE KEY VERSE: 

“And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury” 

(Mark 12:42,43).

2) THE TEXT:

(MARK 12: 35 – 44 KJV) 

“12:35 And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David?

12:36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

12:37 David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.

12:38 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,

12:39 And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:

12:40 Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.

12:41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

12:42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

12:43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

12:44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.”

i) In recent times, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett have been at the head of an unusual campaign. 

a) They rank among the richest people in the world pushing to get the world’s super-rich to donate a good part of their wealth to tackle social, political and economic challenges in the world. 

b) They have given and are committed to giving more in support of some worthy projects around the world. 

ii) Commendably, over 40 billionaires and multi-millionaires have joined this mega-giving wagon. 

iii) The big givers’ details can be found in the World’s Top Givers list which is reviewed annually. 

iv) Were such list to have been compiled when Christ was on earth, this widow’s name would not have been captured.

v) As offerings were being cast into the treasury, the rich gave out of their abundance and perhaps prided themselves as best givers in the fellowship. 

vi) But Christ noticed this poor widow throw in just two mites and yet adjudged her the best giver. 

vii) Jesus did not judge the greatness of her gift by the value but rather by the sincerity, sacrifice and heart of gratitude that went with it. 

viii) Others gave out of their surplus while she did out of her poverty mixed with faith, as she gave all her living. 

ix) We can therefore say certainly that in addition to the commendation she got from the Lord, she definitely did not die of hunger afterwards. 

x) God is interested in our giving, no matter how small, especially for the furtherance of the gospel. 

xi) What matters is not how much you give, but how much you keep. Do you keep so much to yourself and give only ‘a peanut’ to your Maker?

xii) The Lord still observes the motive and attitude of our giving today. 

xiii) How much do you really give in proportion to your God-given wealth?

4) THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: 

God measures the quality of our giving by how much we keep back.
