TOPIC: NOTHING COMES EASY
TEXT: JOB 28:1-11
1) THE KEY VERSE:
“He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing”
(Job 28:10).
2) THE TEXT:
(JOB 28: 1 – 11 KJV)
“1. Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it.
2. Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.
3. He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.
4. The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.
5. As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.
6. The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold.
7. There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture’s eye hath not seen:
8. The lion’s whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.
9. He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots.
10. He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.
11. He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.”
3) THE MESSAGE:
i) Great things are worth the high price they demand.
ii) Job clearly understood this. In his efforts to explain the truth about a pilgrim’s journey, he gave a graphic description that must follow the search for wonderful, beautiful and precious things, which add value to life.
iii) To him,
a) things must not only be carefully worked out,
b) they must also be done with diligence and great strength of mind.
iv) Precious stones are always in the right places, but only when persons of focus, skill and doggedness make out something from them that these ordinary rocks become useful.
v) To find these special rocks,
a) mortals must go underground,
b) squeeze their bodies through cracks in the ground,
c) enter the cave and break rocks before taking out the precious metals.
vi) If mortals can make great efforts to get things of temporal, earthly value, Christians ought to make greater efforts and sacrifices for things of eternal value.
vii) Unfortunately, many people only call the name of God when things are rosy, whereas there are geologists and petroleum engineers who know what it takes to get oil from the deep sea, and pay heavy price to get them.
viii) We should always strive to get things of eternal value, which are more precious than earthly wealth.
ix) True children of God must bear transient phases of adversity in life, with perseverance and state like the psalmist that, “though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil…”
x) Believers pass through fire and they are not consumed. Their souls follow hard after God and eternal glory.
4) THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Absolute faith in God helps to overcome life’s challenges.
5) BIBLE READING IN ONE YEAR:
