Uruguayan soccer player Juan Izquierdo, 27, died on Tuesday at a Sao Paulo hospital, five days after collapsing during a game. The Nacional defender was admitted to Hospital Albert Einstein following a collapse during a Copa Libertadores match at Morumbi Stadium. The hospital reported his death was due to cardiorespiratory arrest associated with his cardiac arrhythmia.
In a statement on Monday, doctors at the hospital revealed that Juan Izquierdo was placed in neurological critical care due to increased intracranial pressure and had been on a ventilator since Sunday.
