Residents of Kwaghaslalek(1) and Mairana villages in Mangu Halle, Mangu local government area of Plateau state – had in this week experienced tragedy when armed men brutally left family members dead and many others wounded.
According to reports, a clash occurred between Fulani men and Berom natives in Alese village of Barkin Ladi LGA.
It
was alleged that some Fulani herdsmen forced their way to graze on
Berom farms in the area last Saturday 9/2/19. When the farmers asked
them to leave their community, the Fulanis left but returned to the
community the next day fully armed.
According to an eyewitness,
the arrival of the armed Fulani men triggered an uproar in the village.
When the community made a second attempt to chase them out, the Fulani
militants went on rampage, shooting sporadically.
On retreating,
the attackers shot and hacked a 26 year old young man, Plangkat Amos
Dabok, at Kwaghaslalek village of Mangu Halle.
Kwaghaslalek
Youths became furious and blocked the highway around Mairana village in
protest for the killing of the young man. In process, they clashed with
governor Simon Lalong’s convoy on his campaign trip to Mangu.
The
security operatives attached to the convoy opened fire on the
protesters, killing three and injuring many. Report also says that the
security men later rushed the wounded to Mangu General Hospital.
Two
of the dead victims were buried on Tuesday, 11th and Wednesday 12th.
