Another player included in the original roster of Super Eagles players for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Sierra Leone has been knocked out by injury.

The latest ‘casualty’ is CD Leganes central defender Kenneth Omeruo who has confirmed his unavailability for the double-header. Omeruo has revealed he faces a minimum of two weeks on the sidelines and that effectively translates to his unavailability for selection by coach Gernot Rohr.

Omeruo suffered an injury three minutes into the second half as CD Leganes battled to a 1-0 win against Mirandes in a Segunda Division match at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque last weekend.

Leganes coach José Luis Martí confirmed that the Nigeria international has suffered a hamstring-related injury. Marti was quoted as saying by Spanish sports daily Diario AS: “Omeruo has noticed a discomfort in the hamstring, in the back. We will see the resonance it may have”.

The 27-year-old is the second invited player to pull out of the squad due to fitness issues just after Nantes winger Moses Simon pulled out after picking up an injury in the 3-0 loss to PSG. The Super Eagles stars are expected to report for international duty on Monday, November 9 in the ancient town of Benin City.
