And
while it has brought continuous breaking news of sporting events either
being cancelled or postponed, it has also brought about acts of
compassion, kindness and solidarity in face of this adversity.
Ronaldo & agent Mendes donate €1m to fund intensive care units
Cristiano
Ronaldo and agent Jorge Mendes pledged €1 million toward funding three
intensive care units in Portugal to aid in coronavirus relief.
The donation will cover two ICUs in Santa Maria hospital in Lisbon and one at the Santo Antonio hospital in Porto.

Barbosa, the president of the board of Centro Hospitalar Universitario
do Porto, thanked Ronaldo and Mendes for their donation.
“This
unit will allow the opening of 15 intensive care beds, fully equipped
with fans, monitors and other equipment. The Centro Hospitalar
Universitário do Porto thanks Cristiano Ronaldo and Jorge Mendes for
this very useful initiative, at a time when the country needs everyone
so much,” Barbosa said.
Messi donates €1m to a hospital in Barcelona & medical centre in Argentina
Barcelona
captain Lionel Messi has joined the fight against the coronavirus by
donating one million euros to combat the pandemic.
The amount will be shared between the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona and another medical centre in Argentina.
“Leo Messi made a donation to the clinic to fight the coronavirus,” the hospital posted on social media.
“Thank you very much, Leo, for your commitment and your support.”
Guardiola donates €1m to Catalan foundation
Pep
Guardiola has donated one million euros on Tuesday to the Angel Soler
Daniel Foundation for the acquisition and supply of medical equipment
amidst the pandemic emergency.
The money will be spent to
buy protection material such as such as masks, glasses, gloves,
disinfectants and respirators, all of which will be distributed to
various medical centres in Catalonia.
In addition to the
purchase of material, they will also finance the production of
artificial respirators and other necessities through 3D printing.
Ramos donates 264,571 masks and 15,000 testing kits
Sergio
Ramos and his wife Pilar Rubio will donate 264,571 masks, 1,000 items
of protective equipment and 15,000 tests to help in the fight against
coronavirus in Spain.
The donation from the Real Madrid
captain and his partner will be made through international NGO, Unicef,
for which the Spanish defender is an also a global ambassador.
Lewandowski couple donate €1m
Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski and his wife have contributed €1m in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Lewandowski’s
Bayern team-mates Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich have also set up a
fund called “We Kick Corona” to combat the outbreak and have contributed
€1m between them.
“We Kick Corona” has already raised more
than €2.5m Euros and charities and social institutions can apply for
funds from the organisation on its website.
Manchester City winger Leroy Sane has also made a considerable financial donation.
Liverpool stewards offer to help at supermarkets
Liverpool
stewards are ready to volunteer at supermarkets in a bid to help crowd
control and support the elderly, says the club’s chief executive officer
Peter Moore.
Stores across the country have reported an
increase in demand for products and seen long queues, while a number of
branches have introduced restrictions to prevent panic buying during the
ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Arsenal donate £100k to local charities
Arsenal
have donated £100,000 across a number of local charities in a bid to
support the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
The
north London club will also provide company cars to transport NHS
workers and assist in the delivery of vital supplies, driven by Arsenal
in the Community staff.
PSG donate €10k to help vulnerable people

Saint-Germain Foundation is providing aid and support to children, the
elderly and the homeless who have all been hit hard by the public health
crisis, as well as supporting the Secours Populaire Français’ doctors
working in the field on a daily basis and helping to train volunteers.
This
€100,000 donation is in addition to the €400,000 partnership agreement
between the Club and the Secours Populaire Français, renewed in March
2020 for three additional years and which will help the Secours
Populaire Français in its daily work to help thousands of people in
difficulty.
Tottenham’s Alderweireld donates electronic tablets to hospitals
Tottenham
defender Toby Alderweireld is donating “dozens” of electronic tablets
to hospitals to help sick people keep in contact with family and
friends.
The 31-year-old, who recommitted his future to
Spurs earlier this season, wants to help people feel less alone during
the coronavirus pandemic and while football is postponed for the
foreseeable future.
Scottish part-time player turns to YouTube to coach kids
Despite
not being able to play football or coach kids due to the pandemic,
Arbroath’s David Gold has turned to YouTube to help keep kids engaged
via drills on their YouTube channel.
The 27-year-old
midfielder co-owns a soccer academy that included working in schools and
at local authority sports centres before the coronavirus forced it to
stop.
Arbroath are one of two part-time teams in the
Scottish Championship with Gold admitting the current situation has left
him, and many others, in limbo.
Cuban, Doncic and Powell donate $500k for childcare
Dallas
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, star guard Luka Doncic and center Dwight
Powell have partnered with the team’s foundation to donate $500,000 to
support childcare for healthcare workers dealing with the coronavirus
pandemic.
Funds will be allocated to the frontline
caregiving staff at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
and Parkland Hospital.
Giggs & Neville – Helping NHS workers ‘right thing to do’
Ryan
Giggs insists making the two hotels he part-owns with former Manchester
United team-mate Gary Neville available free of charge to NHS workers
is the “right thing to do”.
Hotel Football, located near Old
Trafford, and The Stock Exchange in the city centre are owned by the
pair through their GG Hospitality group.
Chelsea announced
last week that the Millennium Hotel at Stamford Bridge will be used by
NHS staff assisting with the coronavirus outbreak and Giggs and Neville
quickly followed suit.
