Barcelona star, Lionel Messi has been offered the chance to rejoin Newell’s Old Boys, according to the Argentine’s club Vice-president Cristian D’Amico.

The 33-year-old began his playing career at Newell’s Old Boys before linking up with Barcelona’s youth team in 2001.

Messi had in the past hinted that he may likely finish his career at Camp Nou but he is yet to agree a new deal with his contract expected to end of next season. However, Newell’s Old Boys have left the door open for Messi if he decides to change his mind.

“I don’t know if it is impossible. It is all up to him and his family. As directors we have to provide the best context possible to help him make a decision. When [Diego] Maradona came to Newell’s nobody thought he could come.

“I hope that something similar can happen with Leo. Obviously we shouldn’t be making things up, this is a delicate subject. What Newell’s doesn’t dream of seeing the world’s best player in their team’s colours? Time will tell maybe, we have to stay calm,” D’Amico told TNT Sports.betpayads

Barcelona are currently second on the La Liga log and Messi has contributed 24 goals and 20 assists in all competitions so far.
