Arsenal are looking to sign a right back following persistent injury problems faced by Hector Bellerin and they have identified Norwich City’s Max Aarons as their ideal signing, but they will face competition from their North London rivals, Tottenham and there is a feeling Spurs will beat them to the Englishman.

Norwich are holding out for £30million for the right back but Arsenal are cash-strapped, and may not be able to afford the fee for the 20-year old.

Tottenham on the other hand, while not exactly flush with cash either, are however believed to be in better financial position to seal the deal for Aarons.

The 20-year-old star has enjoyed a fine debut season in the Premier League, appearing 26 times for the relegation-threatened Canaries.

Aarons’ form has also attracted interest from the Gunners’ north London rivals Tottenham – and it appears Jose Mourinho may have the advantage.

According to Goal, the England Under 21 star is likely to prove too expensive for Arsenal if Norwich refuse to budge on their £30m asking price.

Arteta’s transfer budget has been severely affected by the coronavirus crisis and the Spaniard may have to prioritise other areas of his squad.

Even if Norwich do go down at the end of the season, they may hold out for more than the Gunners can afford as other clubs circle.

Manchester United have previously been credited with an interest in Aarons, who was named the EFL’s Young Player of the Season last term.

He only signed a five-year contract at Carrow Road in the summer of 2019 and Norwich are currently under little pressure to sell one of their prized assets.
