As if their current troubles aren’t enough, Arsenal could possibly lose their captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as Jurgen Klopp has been urged by former Red Stephen Warnock to sign the striker.

The Liverpool manager signed Arsenal’s star striker when he was at Borussia Dortmund.

Klopp has just led the Reds to their first ever Premier League title and is already preparing to defend it next term.

New recruits are set to strengthen and already star-studded squad, but Liverpool’s lack of depth in attack has been highlighted as a potential Achilles heel should one of their front three get injured.

Aubameyang is still negotiating with the Gunners over an extension having entered the final year of his deal.

The striker, who has bagged 20 goals this term, could be sold this summer or move on a free in 12 months’ time depending on how discussions develop.

But Klopp has been encouraged to swoop for his former player given the attractiveness of a move to Anfield.

The former Reds defender told BBC Radio 5 Live : “If I was Jurgen Klopp, I’d be going for him with a year left on his contract.

“You’re wanting a goalscorer who can either come off the bench or play on a regular basis.

“He will challenge the front three, he doesn’t need time to settle, you know he’s proven, he knows the manager and the manager knows what he’s about.

“Aubameyang will be on big wages, but he won’t cost you big money to get him out with a year left on his contract and the age that he’s at.

“Would Aubameyang like to go to a club like Liverpool, Manchester City or Manchester United? From his point of view, being a squad player at 31, competing for the Champions League, competing for leagues, and he will win some trophies going to one of those three clubs – that’s what he wants at the end of his career.

“When you retire, to have that association with one of those clubs, as well as Arsenal, as well as Borussia Dortmund, what a CV you’ve got then.”
