Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu has insisted that Lionel Messi will extend his deal with the La Liga giants.
There are speculations that the attacker is considering leaving Barcelona at the end of the next season and the president as moved to squash the rumours that the Argentine captain has halted new contract talks with Barcelona.
In Argentina, there’s talk of Messi already being in contact with Manchester City about a bank-busting move to England.
However, Bartomeu told Mundo Deportivo: “I will not give details of the negotiations, but he has said repeatedly that he wants to end his career at Barçelona.
“Now we are focusing on the competition and there are negotiations with many players.
“Messi wants to stay at Barçelona and he wants to end things here. He has many years left and we will enjoy him for longer.”
There are also talks that he could make a sensational return to his boyhood club Newell Old Boys in Argentina.
