Basketball Update:- Uju Ugoka Joins Hainaut

Nigerian ex-international forward Uju Ugoka has joined Union Saint-Amand Porte du Hainaut (LFB). The 27-year old Nigerian has played for the last two years at Roche in the LFB, but left the team in April. In three Eurocup games she averaged 9.3 Points Per Game, 9.7 Rebounds Per Game and 1.3 Assists Per Game in the 2019-20 season. Ugoka also played 12 games in French LFB where she had 9.8ppg, 6.7rpg and 1.3apg. It was a good season for her as she was selected League Player of the Week.

Ugoka was also a member of Nigerian international program for some years. She played for Nigerian Senior National Team between 2015 and 2016 and previously for U19 National Team back in 2011.

Ugoka also represented Nigeria at the Olympic Games Additional Qualifying Round in Nantes (France) four years ago. Her stats at that event were 2 games: 5.0ppg, 5.0rpg, 1.0apg, 1.0spg.

And here thanks to pro basketball Ugoka has experienced life on three different continents. She is familiar with European, African and of course North American leagues. Ugoka has played previously professionally in Italy (Parma and Vigarano), Poland (Pszczolka AZS-UMCS Lublin) and Nigeria (First Bank).

Among many awards she received Eurobasket.com All-French LFB Honorable Mention award in 2019.

She attended Virginia Tech University until 2014 and this will be her eighth season in pro basketball.

Let’s have closer look into Ugoka’s Profile: Virginia Tech career: Ugoka, a 6-foot-1 forward from Lagos, Nigeria, led the Hokies all season, averaging 18.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. She finished the season ranked eighth in the ACC in scoring and third in rebounding; set a Virginia Tech single-season record with 16 double-doubles on the year and tied the longest streak in program history with six in a row, while ranked 17th in the NCAA in total double-doubles on the season. In addition, Ugoka set the Tech single-season record for field goals made with 213, breaking the previous record of 212.

She has solid back to the basket moves and is very good at catching in the mid post and facing to score; has an excellent step through baseline drive move that used effectively. She is a rebounds machine. Good passer.

Prior to Virginia Tech: Played at Gulf Coast State and named the Conference Player of the Year, earned first team NJCCA All-America honors and was a top-3 finalist for National JUCO Player of the Year Averaged 17 points, nine rebounds and 1.8 steals per game Also competed at Grayson County College as a freshman, earning Conference Player of the Year honors as well as first team NJCCA All-America Was a silver medalist in the U18 African qualifiers.
