With Luis Suarez set to return from his extended injury layoff, emergency signing Martin Braithwaite has laid down the gauntlet to the Uruguayan, suggesting that there is nobody at Barcelona who physically beats him.

Braithwaite left the coaching staff at Barcelona stunned with his physical attributes when Los Cules returned to training after the COVID-19 enforced break.

“There isn’t a single player who works as hard or trains as hard as I do, physically nobody can beat me,” Braithwaite explained

“I want to become a legend.”

Braithwaite will have a difficult challenge in breaking into the Barcelona team once competition returns, especially with Luis Suarez and Ansu Fati also vying for the same position.

However, it would be a lie to say that the Blaugrana staff haven’t been impressed by his physical work during the break.

There has been an incredible reaction to the former Middlesbrough forward’s strength and speed shown in training, and the player will now look to take Fati’s role as first option off the bench.

A significant number of fans and analysts didn’t think Leganes’ star forward would be able to adapt to Quique Setien’s style of football, especially after the club had looked towards many other players before eventually signing him.

He has won over the coaches with his ability to understand the game and adapt to in-match situations posed in training sessions, which goes well with his aforementioned physical work.

Prior to the break he had played 130 minutes for the Catalan club, including a brief cameo in the Clasico where he really should have scored, and now he will seek to take minutes away from Suarez.
