Afenifere, pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation has condemned the proposed increase in the prices of petroleum products, saying President Muhammadu Buhari and his cabals in the Aso Villa have continued to manipulate the markets to inflict hardship on Nigerians.

The Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), had on Friday morning announced that it has increased the ex-depot price of the product, to N155.17 per litre from N147.67 per litre.

Also, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, said that the government had stepped back in fixing the price of petrol, adding that market forces and crude oil price would continue to determine the cost of the product.

But speaking in an interview with Daily Independent, Yinka Odumakin said the Buhari administration has continued to manipulate the polity while putting the blame on ‘market forces’.

According to him, while President Buhari promised to fix the four refineries in Nigeria if elected, not a single one has been repaired five years down the line.

He said “That is President Buhari’s market forces. You saw the memo by PPMC, they said ‘market forces’. As of today, nobody knows the landing cost. They are just manipulating the polity. In 2014, President Buhari said they are going to repair all the refineries, but in five years, they have not repaired one”.

“I remembered that it was the late Prof. Tam David- West who said that fuel will sell for N40 per litre under Buhari. We have seen that the fuel they met at N87 per lite is now being sold at N159 per litre”.

“At every point in time, they will continue to deceive Nigerians that the fuel price is being determined by market forces. Which forces? They are the forces”.

“The forces are those in the villa and NNPC office who are manipulating the markets to punish the Nigerians and impose hardship on them”.

“It shows clearly that these people don’t have an idea of how to run a decent society. There is no area they have made life easier for the people. It is just putting and piling pressure on them”.

“I just read that the governor of Kogi state has imposed tax on every loaf of bread in the state. Do these people think they can tax the people out of this crisis? You just finished dealing with #EndSARS and them you are putting people through all these difficulties. It is so terrible.”

“These people have taken our people too long for a ride and they are treating people like dirt that they can match on whenever they like. That is not how to run a decent society”.
