Igbere TV reports that a Nigerian man Caleb Obari, 21, who has been missing for nearly three weeks has been found by Ukrainian police in Odesa Oblast.

Mr Obari, a graduate of a Ukrainian university, disappeared since August 20 while taking a boat trip in Odesa.

Police said they found his body on September 12 near the coastline in Chornomorsk, a port city in Odesa Oblast, Igbere TV gathered.

The cause of death is yet to be ascertained, although police are treating it as an accident.

A volunteer group known as Rescue Platform 911 had said Obari was invited to a party on a boat by Vera Topalova, owner of a BDSM-themed bar Iznanka in Odesa.

Igbere TV reports that head of Rescue Platform 911 Alexander Sopelnik said the Nigerian was the only foreigner out of about 10 passengers on the boat.

The boat sailed for some kilometres before returning without Obari.

No explanation was given to Obari’s friend who waited endlessly for him. The friend was only handed Obari’s personal belongings, including a mobile phone.

Six days after Obari’s disappearance, Topalova confirmed in a Facebook post that she invited Obari to the party.

She wrote that Obari went swimming in the sea together with some other guests but never returned.

“Within a few minutes, I heard that they started looking for him. These were the most terrible minutes of that day,” wrote Topalova.

Obari’s friends, however, said he couldn’t swim.

Nigerians in Ukraine had sought for justice with #JusticeforCaleb and #BlackLivesMatter social media hashtags.

Igbere TV gathered that a rally calling for justice for Obari was held near the Nigerian Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kyiv on August 31.
