Cameroonian Girl Can Now Smile After Surgeons Removed Huge Tumor On Her Face (Photos)

A 12-year-old girl can finally smile and eat properly after surgeons removed the football-sized tumour engulfing her face that was killing her.

Kaltoumi, a 12-year-old African girl given three months to live can smile again – after surgeons removed a huge tumour which engorged her entire FACE. See SWNS story SWSMILE; The girl, named Kaltoumi, was slowly suffocating and struggled to eat as the tumour grew over a five-year period. She was saved at the last gasp as surgeons aboard the Africa Mercy – a hospital ship providing care to third world countries – docked in Cameroon to perform surgery. Kaltoumi said after the surgery: ìIt feels like a heaviness has been lifted from me.î Dr. Gary Parker, surgeon and chief medical officer, described Kaltoumi as the ìposter childî for five billion people unable to access ìtimely, affordable, safe surgeryî in impoverished countries on the continent.

Known only as Kaltoumi, she was given three months to live as the mass restricted her eating and slowly suffocated her as it grew over five years.

But she was saved after medics aboard the Africa Mercy – a hospital ship providing care to third world countries – docked in Cameroon to perform surgery.

Kaltoumi – who can finally smile and eat properly for the first time in five years – said after the surgery: ‘It feels like a heaviness has been lifted from me.’
