Charlotte Bankes: Briton wins back-to-back Snowboard Cross World Cups

Charlotte Bankes continued Great Britain’s success on snow with back-to-back Snowboard Cross World Cup wins in Sierra Nevada, Spain.

The 27-year-won gold on Sunday to follow up her victory the previous day.

Fresh from being crowned mixed team world champion alongside Huw Nightingale last week, Bankes pipped France’s Chloe Trespeuch to the line in both races.

French compatriot Manon Petit Lenoir was third on Sunday.

Olympic champion Lindsey Jacobellis of the USA placed third in Saturday’s final.

The double success means defending World Cup champion Bankes has now won five medals on the World Cup circuit this season and moves to the top of the leaderboard ahead of two-time Olympic medallist Trespeuch.

Just 24 hours before her victory with Nightingale in Georgia, Bankes had crashed out of her individual snowboard cross title defence.

The snowboard cross season continues in Veysonnaz, Switzerland, on Wednesday before concluding in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada on 24-26 March.

Also in Spain, Great Britain’s Nina Sparks won snowboard cross bronze at the Para Snowboard World Championships at La Molina on Saturday.
