After selling Yann Sommer to Inter this week, the Bundesliga champions have made the acquisition of a new goalkeeper one of their top goals for the remainder of the summer transfer window. Manuel Neuer, meantime, is still not close to recovering from breaking his leg while on a ski trip in December.
David Raya was the subject of negotiations between Bayern and Brentford, but the Spaniard is reportedly close to joining Arsenal after Mikel Arteta’s team reached a £30 million agreement on Tuesday.
The German club is reportedly looking for alternatives and has started “initial talks” with Chelsea about a deal for Kepa, according to Sport1.
According to the source, Thomas Tuchel personally recommended the Spaniard to Bayern’s management after the two worked together at Chelsea.
Kepa lost his spot as Chelsea’s No. 1 under Tuchel because the German preferred Edouard Mendy.
Kepa is anticipated to start in goal for Chelsea’s Premier League debut against Liverpool this Sunday after Mendy left for the Saudi Pro League this summer.
He now has competition for his position in Mauricio Pochettino’s lineup though, as Chelsea have finalized a £25 million deal to acquire Robert Sanchez from Brighton.
Kepa, who transferred from Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea for £71.6 million, has two years left on his contract, which is earning almost £190,000 per week.
