Chelsea And Brighton Reach Agreement On A £25 Million First-Round Signing Of A Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez

In the wake of selling Edouard Mendy to Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, the Blues have been searching for a goalkeeper to join their team.

Kepa Arrizabalaga will have competition from 25-year-old Sanchez for the top slot.

The Chelsea coaching staff will be familiar with the Spaniard because goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts collaborated with him while he was at Brighton.

Sanchez joined the Seagulls’ academy from Levante in 2013, and has been a member of the team since he was 15 years old.

He joined Brighton in November 2020 and spent the better part of two years as the Seagulls’ first-choice goalkeeper after loan stints with Forest Green and Rochdale.

Although his only two caps have both come in friendlies, he was also called up by Spain in 2021 and was a member of their team in the postponed Euro 2020 tournament and the 2022 World Cup.

The second part of Brighton’s 2022–23 Premier League season saw Sanchez lose his starting position to Jason Steele, however he did play in Brighton’s FA Cup semifinal loss to Manchester United on penalties at Wembley.

Sanchez has played 90 times for Brighton, where his contract was originally slated to expire in June 2025.
