Manchester United are one of several clubs who could miss out on millions of transfer revenue owing to the coronavirus – and the current climate would see the value of talisman Paul Pogba drop significantly.

The Frenchman has been sidelined with an injury since Boxing Day, and
this has fuelled speculation that he could depart the club, with Real
Madrid touted as the side who could snap up the midfielder in this
summer’s transfer window.

But any offer for Pogba, as well
as a whole host of other players in the upcoming market, would have to
be aligned with the current situation the globe is in, according to
expert analysis from CIES Football Observatory.

The Red Devils are said to want over £100million for Pogba, but this is nowhere near the CIES Football Observatory’s valuation.

The
organisation said in their analysis: “United are understood to want
well over £100million to enter into negotiations over a transfer, though
CIES Football Observatory reports his value is closer to £58m and his
lack of playing time and length of contract actually makes Pogba worth
closer to £31m.”

Indeed, the pandemic has seen a vast reduction in value for players, as clubs face economic uncertainty.

But the World Cup winner is just one in numerous examples of how the cost of footballers will drop in the coming months, and how clubs may have to lower their current estimations if they are to expect any business.

The report goes on to show that, across Europe’s top five leagues,
clubs are looking at an estimated drop of £8.31billion in player value
collectively.

Manchester City will be hit the hardest, some
£368.30m will be reduced from the net worth of their squad, which is
around 30.1% of their total.

Meanwhile, in Ligue 1 Marseille
will lose £86.74m, a sum considerably less than City however it does
represent 37.9 per cent of their total.

This is the biggest percentage the biggest across the big five, with Inter Milan just below the French club with 35.7 per cent.
